| READY TO ROCK February 5, 2009 at 9:11 pm |
| | Getting back to business, Jessica Simpson emerged from her hotel in Charlottesville, VA on January 29 on her way to prep for her concert later in the evening. Jess is on tour with Rascal Flatts now, but all of the hefty criticism about her recent weight gain has temporarily taken the spotlight off the headliners. Lucky for Jess its decidedly cooler in Virginia than Florida (where the dreadful high waist jean and leopard belt photos were taken), and she started the day off bundled up in a cozy jacket (like Rails Indya Hoodie in Black) with a bold red tunic (check out Qis vibrant Drop Shoulder Scoop Top in Red Kiss) and the essential black leggings (add a Western twist to your fit with Desert Blues Bullhorn Jean in Black - Im sure Jess would approve!). I love Jessicas simple knit black hat and Louis Vuitton tote, but Im not sure what to think of the funky platform boots -- do you like the look? Its a shame that so many people have so many bad things to say about the blonde songstress, but luckily Jessica has plenty of friends sticking up for her. Little sis Ashlee Simpson dedicated a blog titled Since when did a womans weight become newsworthy, venting her frustration about Jesss unwarranted criticism: A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a womans weight or figure. All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because youre a celebrity, there shouldnt be a different standard... How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure? Now can we focus on the things that really matter? Well said, Ash! There has been way, way too much coverage of celebrity weight gain, from Oprahs recently publicized struggle to the insults being slung at Jess now. What do you all think about the weight issue?... |
| BACKWARDS BEAUTIFUL February 5, 2009 at 8:05 pm |
| | Looking fabulous in a draping cornflower blue dress, Angelina Jolie hit the red carpet at the SAG Awards in Los Angeles on January 25. Putting her own spin on Max Azrias Spring 2009 gown, Angie decided to flip the dress, worn on the runway with the v-neck at the front (try the same look yourself with dresses like PGD Styles Flutter Sleeve Dress in Plum Kitty or Gold Hawks Brush Stroke V-Neck in Black). Her stylist, Jen Rade explained to US Weekly that Ang loved the low back style because it shows off her multitude of tattoos, and she liked the blouson front style better. Not sure why Angie loves the blouson look so much lately, but it does look stunning on her increasingly slender figure. Is it just me or is Ang looking a little too thin lately? She looks gorgeous here but her sharp collar bones and bony wrists tell a slightly different story. What do you think? The blue shade of the dress is perfect against her light skin though, and the messy up do adds a nice contemporary feel to this fit. Angelina completed her look with delicate Tiffany and Co hoop earrings (try Michele Michels Onyx Diamond Hoop Earrings in Silver to dress up either option above) and killer heels by Christian Louboutin. Très classy! What do you think of Angies SAG look? As she walked the red carpet, Angie was pressed to gush about her lover, and finally said a few words about how much she appreciates him: [Brad]s taught me a great deal. Hes a wonderful man and a great father and the person I admire most in the world because I know who he is every minute of every day. I think hes extraordinary... Weve been doing [the red carpet] together for four years - its always nice [to have him around]. I dont think Id want to be doing it alone. Its nice to be doing it with your best friend and have a laugh in the middle of the show. Funny how these two lead such a perfect life and yet its hard to get intimate answers out of either of them about their relationship! Do you think theyre overly scrutinized by the press, or does their secrecy make their relationship seem a little murky?... |
| GETTING SOME SUN... IN JANUARY February 5, 2009 at 12:48 am |
| | Enjoying the recent warm weather in Los Angeles, Natalie Portman ventured out to the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood on January 16. Natalie donned one of her favorite sundresses from last summer: a red, yellow and blue striped mini with a nautical theme (try CoutureCandys colorful array of minis for spring like Misiles Amsterdam Dress in Navy Stripe or Lotta Stenssons fancier Satin Shirt Dress in Grey). Resist the urge to sneer at her for repeating such a boring look -- Im pretty sure shes into that whole environmentally-friendly-recycle-your-wardrobe thing. And is that such a bad thing, really? Natalie is also carrying the same woven tote from the summer, but the sunny new flats and classic navy cardigan perk up her look. With a brighter tote (like Antoinette Lees adorable Dolce Handbag in White), this fit would be adorable for spring! Natalie completed her look with gold Ray Bans, a long wrapped necklace (check out Rachel Leighs versatile Lucky Coin Necklace in Banana) and a few mini braids gathered into a bouncy ponytail. Its very juvenile but as you can see Nat is having fun with it, even if shes sacrificing fashion a little. Would you rock a similar fit on a sunny day? Natalie has been laying pretty low over the past few weeks, but lately shes surfaced in LA and looks much happier than usual. With several impending movie releases including New York, I Love You and Brothers, its good to see Natalie enjoying herself before the rush of promo appearances begins. Natalie is also taking part in yet another short funny internet flick: she and Michelle Williams are appearing in an art film that starts with the gorgeous gals fighting over a perfume bottle and ends in a cat-fight on a hotel suite floor. The films director Roman Polanski and Italian artist Francesco Vezzoli appear to be poking fun at high profile fragrance ads starring celebs, like Nicole Kidman for Chanel, Charlize Theron for Dior, and the slew of other celebs that star in their own overly dramatic perfume slots, including Britney Spears. What are your thoughts on celebrity fragrances -- do you wear them, or do you think theyre overly hyped?... |
| CUT THE FAT TALK February 5, 2009 at 12:05 am |
| | Earlier this week, Jessica Simpson surprised everyone with her curvaceous shape at the a country music concert Chili Cook-Off in Pembroke Pines, Florida on January 25. Its hard not to look at this picture without feeling a little shocked, but I think the main problem here is the fit, not Jessicas overly criticized weight gain. Jessicas retro high waist jeans (try more flattering cuts like Aristocrats Stratford Pant in Haven or Desert Blues Wide Leg Trouser in Vintage Demo) and simple tucked in black tank (check out Qis comfy Mesh Yoke Ribbed Tank in Black) would have been fine, if the fit wasnt so skin tight. But at least her tush still looks good! Personally, I think its the belt that truly ruins this fit. Its never good to draw attention your mid-section, and the loud print and the thick shape cuts her body in half and makes her look stuffed into those ill-fitting jeans. If you like the look of wide belts, try a more flattering shade with intricate details like Linea Pelles Double Buckle with Contract Stitch Waist Belt in Dark Olive or Rough Roses Elastic Waist Belt in Gold. Leave the leopard print for accessories that dont emphasize potential problem areas -- like Julie Ks Natalie Sleek Clutch in Leopard. Jessica always wears her share of accessories, and she added some gold bangles (like Rachel Leighs Peace Charm Bracelet in Gold) and a pair of circular gold earrings (try Kimberly Faiths Half Moon on Chain Earrings in Gold). After this photo was released, the wave of name calling and criticism about Jessicas weight gain was astonishing. Luckily, all of the negative talk has plenty of celebrities fired up about the vicious attacks. Jessicas weight was even mentioned on The Today Show, where People magazine editor Galina Espinoza spoke out: Jessica Simpson is becoming part of this trend we call body-bullying... People are cruelly mocking her, making her feel like there is something wrong with her just because she has a slightly fuller figure. Its something thats going on increasingly in Hollywood. Do you think Jessica looks healthier with her more voluptuous figure, or does she need to shed a few pounds?... | | | |
